CAP World Year of PhysicsWorld Year of Physics 2005

Next Event:  Exploring the "The Edge:" Historical Perspectives on the Canadian Light Source

Also note: Beyond Einstein - Live Webcast - Thursday Dec. 1, 2005

  • In June 2004, the United Nations endorsed 2005 as the International Year of Physics.
  • 2005 is chosen to coincide with the 100 year anniversary of Einstein's miraculous year; when in 1905 he published three of his most famous contributions to Physics:
    • Special Relativity
    • The Photoelectric Effect
    • Brownian Motion
  • The purpose of the year is to
    • Celebrate physics and its applications.
    • Bring the excitement of understanding the physical world to the public and to inspire a new generation of scientists.
    • Celebrate the contribution of physics and physicists to Canadian and Saskatchewan life.
    • Celebrate the history of  physics in Canada and in Saskatchewan.
See our World Year of Physics feature in the Saskatoon Star Phoenix.
