Title:          Dealing with Galaxies, Planets and Governments - Fifty Years of Scientific Research and Policy Advising.

Dr. Al Cameron, after obtaining a Ph.D. for his work in nuclear physics at the Betatron of the University of Saskatchewan, switched to Nuclear Astrophysics. He spent several years studying the origin of the chemical elements by nuclear reactions in stars. Over the decades, his scientific investigations were also concerned with the origin of the solar system and the evolution and properties of the interstellar medium and the planets.  Besides his research and teaching, he was involved in advising the science agencies of Canada and the United States of America on matters pertaining to science policy and funding, in various capacities including a 6-year term as Chair of the Space Science Board of the United States.  His lecture will touch upon the scientific aspects as well as his role in policy-making.  There will be ample opportunity to question him on his activities there as well as about his time at the University of Saskatchewan.
