HUSSEY, GlennAssistant Professor Research and Academic InterestsDr. Hussey's research interests centre around the ionospheric E-region, both at the high- and mid-latitudes. His thesis research at the University of Saskatchewan involved studying the high-latitude E-region with a VHF radar which he modified into a polarimeter. His post-doctoral research at the Universite Paris VI and the Max-Planck-Institut fuer Aeronomie involved studying the mid-latitude E-region with both HF and VHF radars as well as support instruments such as ionosondes and magnetometers. The focus of this research is to better understand the plasma processes responsible for these coherent radar echoes through analysis of the data and through a comparison of it to some of the currently proposed theories and models. He is currently analysing data from previous experiment collaborations as well as setting up new experiments. For example, as it is becoming increasingly obvious that the E-region is influenced, at least to a certain degree, by other bounding regions such as the D-region, he is establishing a new and unique experiment comparing MF radar measurements (neutral atmospheric dynamics; Dr. Manson) with E-region observations.
